Consequences..., Tragedy!
As per their treaty, Cleopatra was pleased to get some of the old Ptolemy territory back from Antony, but their marriage made Romans unhappy yet again. Antony's enemy, Octavian decided to take advantage of this unrest to defeat Antony. Meanwhile, Cleopatra shrewdly attempted to give Antony supreme power by uniting the east and west. Finally, a battle came from Octavian's rivalry, the Battle of Actium. Cleopatra persuaded Antony to accept it because she had a good fleet that would give them an advantage, but Antony lost the battle because Octavian had better geographical position.
"The queen herself was seen summoning the winds, unfurling her sails and frantically paying out the slackened ropes."
-Virgil (Jones Prudence , J cleopatra : the last pharaoh, 133)
Cleopatra fled the battle and declared herself dead to hide from her enemies. Antony committed suicide in her grief and later died in her arms. Cleopatra followed him to death by committing suicide by asp. They proved their true love.
